Vitamins are organic compounds which all organisms need in small quantities. When our body cannot produce enough of some organic compound we need to get it through food. The supplements we get through food are called vitamins, and they are vital nutrients for our entire organism. When our body isn’t producing enough and we’re not taking enough vitamins from food we can get deficient in some vitamins and this could lead to some health problems.

Cracks on the lips

If your lips are constantly cracked you’re probably deficient in iron, zinc, vitamins B3, B2 and B12. Vegetarians usually suffer from these deficiencies because of their limited nutrition.

How to fix it: You need to include more Swiss chard, peanuts, legumes, lentils, poultry meat, salmon, tuna, eggs, and shellfish. Combined with vitamin C your body can absorb iron much faster and easier so you can eat these foods in combination with some vitamin C rich vegetables like broccoli, red peppers, kale and cauliflower.

Red rash on the face (or elsewhere) and hair loss

If you’re experiencing some of these symptoms your body is lacking in vitamin B7, or as we call it the hair vitamin.Eating fresh eggs, which are rich in a protein called avidin will make you prone to these conditions because this protein prevents the absorption of biotin in the body.

How to fix it: Switch to cooked eggs instead of fresh, try eating more salmon, avocado, mushrooms, cauliflower, soybeans, walnuts, raspberries and bananas.

Red or white skin changes similar to acne, usually on the face, arms, thighs and backs.

These changes indicate a deficiency in fatty acids and vitamins A and E.

How to fix it: The solution for this condition lies in the proper digestion of fats. You need to eliminate trans-fats like margarine and limit the intake of saturated fats while eating more healthy fats. Eat more salmon and sardines, walnuts and almonds, flax and hemp seeds. To increase your vitamin A levels you need to eat more green vegetables, carrots, sweet potatoes and red peppers. They contain high amounts of beta carotene which your body needs to get the necessary vitamins. Vitamin D can be obtained by just spending 10 minutes in the sun.

Numbness and tingling on your hands, feet or anywhere on your body

Your body lacks vitamins B9, B6 and B12 and their deficiency is directly linked with the peripheral nerves. Aside from the abovementioned symptoms you may experience depression, anemia, hormone imbalance and fatigue as a result of these deficiencies.

How to fix it: Include more spinach, beets, asparagus, eggs, beans, shellfish, crabs and chicken meat in your diet.

Muscle cramps, severe pain in the fingers, wrists, feet, legs and back.

You’re deficient in magnesium, calcium and potassium.

How to fix it: You need to eat more foods rich in these nutrients like bananas, hazelnuts, zucchini, cherry, apple, grapefruit, broccoli, vegetables with darker leaves, such as kale and spinach and dandelion leaves.
