Ramen noodles can be very bad for your health. Many people will deny it. Research from Baylor University and Harvard found out that this staple food for college kids can kill you, because it increase the risk of metabolic
changes linked to heart disease and stroke.
One specialist made an experiment with a time lapse video inside the stomach to see what will happen after two hour of consuming ramen noodles, and the results were shocking.
Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone is a byproduct of the petroleum industry and food additive, which ramen noodles contain.
No matter what they eat, or how much they exercise, women in South Korea who consumed more often precooked blocks of dried noddles, were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is increasing the blood pressure or blood sugar levels, and also they have increased risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
The dried noodle block are made of the following ingredients: wheat flour, palm oil, and salt, and one meal of instant noodles contain 2700 mg of sodium.
‘’It is delicious food, but in it there could be increased risk for metabolic syndrome, because of the high sodium’’ is what co-author Hyun Shin said. He is a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. With his colleagues he analyzed the health and diet of almost 11,000 adults in South Korea between ages 19-64. South Korea has the highest number of instant noodle consumers in the world, and this is why in the last years, health problems like heart disease and obesity were increased. Women who ate noodles twice a week or more had a higher risk of metabolic syndrome than those who didn’t consumed at all.
Shin and his colleagues guessed that biological differences between the genders, like the effect of sex hormones and metabolism, might account for the lack of an apparent association among males between eating instant noodles and developing metabolic syndrome.
What is bad about instant noodles?
‘’Because they are high in fat, salt, calories, and that they are processed. Those factors could damage the health’’ Young said.
